About Me

Little Ol' Me

I am a 20-year old (now 21, woot woot!), Political Science major at the University of South Florida, with an interest in almost anything international. I have been studying Mandarin Chinese at my school for 3 years and have been to China twice already (the last two summers), this year I am finally going to jump in and do the whole year and I want to blog so I can always look back and remember the experience. I will be travelling all around China whenever possible, and also other countries in Asia. Check out my blogs if you are interested~ =D

I was able to visit China, well Hong Kong, twice (but only briefly) while in the military and it left a VERY favorable impression on me. I want to go back so bad and immerse myself in the culture but family obligations make that unlikely. I have started taking Mandarin and hope that i will manage to get as good as you did in only three years. Maybe by then I would have saved up enough for the trip! Till then I will be living it up vicariously through you, lol. Continue to have fun and enjoy.

That sounds like an awesome goal to me! I think the biggest aid in language learning is personal interest, as long as your doing it for yourself rather than a grade it won’t be hard at all 🙂

I love your blog. It’s so refreshing to have an unbiased account of china, with all the interesting social aspects and interactions with Chinese nationals, not just the expat community. I’m going to Wuhan in September to teach English (if the last three weeks of uni doesn’t kill me) for a year, I have to desperately try and pick up some Mandarin. Hope the rest of your time is amazing. X

Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment! I know I have a lot of silent readers out there (not that I blame you all, I have read PLENTY of blogs and rarely left comments) but it is nice to feel appreciated 🙂

    Hi Marsha,

I recently came across your blog from another blogs blog roll. I am still reading your posts and they are edifying.

I have a number of questions for you but can’t see a contact email. There are a number of topics I would like to discuss with you regarding China and your experiences. I would like to hear from you.

Marsha! Nice blog–I really enjoyed the fact everyone thought your friend looked like Edward from Twilight! That must have been hilarious!

I’m coming to Beijing in mid June to teach English. Super excited, but also have some questions. Would it be okay to email you sometime? Let me know! 🙂

Hello Marsha, I have been a silent reader of your blog for some time now and I just have to say I love it. You give such a eye opening view of China and its also great to see a african american woman POV. And also as a fellow Floridian (I was actually going to go to USF) its cool to see someone from the same State exploring Asia. I’m so jealous and I hope I get the opportunity to travel to China. Just wanted to say I’m a fan of the blog and hello :)!

Wow, that is too much of a coincedence! (Sorry about the late reply, I didn’t receive any alerts to comments on this post) What school did you choose to go to instead? One with a good Chinese language program?? Haha
